Thieves oil is apparently designed as an infection-fighting formula. It’s modeled after the legend of four Medieval thieves, who stole from the sick during a plague.
As the story goes, these men remained healthy. That’s because they knew of a secret herbal or aromatic recipe, which had been in their family.
The Young Living company is the creator of the modern Thieves essential oil. This is a blend of clove, cinnamon, lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary oils.
Many of us have found that these five oils, mixed together, are good for general household cleaning. Some potential uses include putting some in your laundry wash cycle, putting a few drops on a sponge as you wipe down your kitchen appliances or putting a few drops in the bucket you use to wash your kitchen floors.
I like the fact that Thieves oil is a totally non-toxic cleaning agent, with proven germ-busting potential.
Research has shown that Young Living Thieves was able to kill several strains of airborne bacteria in a lab.
Thieves Oil for Cleaning
Thieves oil is sold through a network of multilevel marketing distributors. It’s also available online.
Due to its general disinfecting nature, Thieves oil has a wide range of uses around the house. For instance, you could put a drop or two in a glass of warm water, and use it to soak toothbrushes. Or, you can add some of this highly aromatic formula to homemade soaps.
One of my favorite uses for this five-oil recipe is for mold control. I’m not aware of any studies showing Thieves can kill fungus. But many people seem to be using it for that purpose, consider the various anecdotal reports found online.
Last summer, I realized my basement dehumidifier had a musty smell. I also realized this was very unhealthy. But, because of the moisture in the air, I still needed to run it. Looking for a solution, I sprinkled a little bit of a similar product in the well, where the water collects. I did this each time I replaced the water bucket. The formula I used took care of the smell.
Just so I’m not misleading you, I used a competing brand called Fabulous Frannie Protect. It contains the same mix of five oils found in the original proprietary Thieves.
This formula is something I never want to be without, because I’ve found so many uses for it around the house. I also use my Fabulous Frannie Protect for general infection fighting. Whenever I feel the first signs of a cold, I put this recipe of diluted aromatic oils on the inside of my wrist.
